Only recently more NGOs become aware of the phenomenon of trafficking although it exists for
several years already.
A coalition of organizations against trafficking in women was created after the 1997 report, written by Martina Vandenberg from Global Survival Network for the International Women Network (IWN).The sociologist Esther Eylam with "We are worthy" were the founders of this Coalition. Hot Line for Foreign Workers are members of this Coalitioon. Awareness Center is in the status of advisor to the Coalition. The coalition sent recommendations concerning the creation of a shelter for trafficked women based on the recommendations of the UN Protocol to prevent suppress and punish the trafficking in persons attached to the UN Convention against transnational organized crime (Palermo 2000).
The situation of prostituted persons in Israel is not bright, Awareness Center, with other
organizations, including Esther Eylam and "We Are Worthy" (an organization of women in the field),
are working on a proposal to the ministery of Justice for a first shelter for trafficked women
as well as for local women who wish to leave prostitution.
