רכז ןיממ םיעגפנב לופיט םיצלמומ םירתא Jim Hopper, Ph.D Sexual Abuse Of Males: Prevalence, Possible Lasting Effects, And Resources by Jim Hopper, Ph.D. Introduction - Here are the reasons I have published this page: To help those looking for Web resources on the sexual abuse of boys and the lasting effects of childhood sexual abuse in the lives of men. To inform men who were sexually abused in childhood and want to know what professional researchers and therapists have learned, but who might not otherwise seek information in scholarly journals and books. To help people understand how researchers come up with statistics on child sexual abuse, because the popular media foster confusion and most people don't read scholarly journals where researchers publish their work. Factors in the Cycle of Violence: Gender Rigidity and Emotional Constriction By David Lisak, Jim Hopper, and Pat Song Abstract A sample of 595 men were administered self-report assessments of childhood sexual and physical abuse, perpetration history, gender rigidity and emotional constriction. Including noncontact forms of sexual abuse, 11% of the men reported sexual abuse alone, 17% reported physical abuse alone, and 17% reported sexual and physical abuse. Of the 257 men in the sample who reported some form of childhood abuse, 38% reported some form of perpetration themselves, either sexual or physical; of the 126 perpetrators, 70% reported having been abused in childhood. Thus, most perpetrators were abused but most abused men did not perpetrate. Both sexually and physically abused men who perpetrated manifested significantly more gender rigidity and emotional constriction than abused perpetrators. Men who reported abuse but did not perpetrate demonstrated significantly less gender rigidity, less homophobia and less emotional constriction than nonabused men. Making The Decision To Care: Guys And Sexual Assault by Frederick Mathews Abstract This booklet is a compact educational resource on sexual assault, designed for use by both teen males and the professionals who work with them. It explains what a sexual offence is, why the teen committed or considered sexual offending, how the abuse cycle works, what the victim experiences, and what a teen male can do to stop himself from sexually assaulting. Opening the Door: A Treatment Model for Therapy With Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse by Adrienne Crowder Abstract This book is a practical resource for mental health practitioners (therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, doctors, crisis centre workers, and others) who work with adolescent and/or adult male survivors of sexual abuse. It presents a four-phase model of therapeutic intervention - complete with assessment and evaluation tools - which can be used for both individual and group treatment of male survivors. 1993, 144 p. When Males Have Been Sexually Abused: A Guide for Adult Male Survivors by the Vancouver Incest and Sexual Abuse Centre (VISAC) Abstract This booklet is addressed to adult men who were sexually abused as young children or as teenagers. It will also help their partners, friends and families to understand the effects of sexual abuse and the healing process. In a direct and clear, the booklet answers questions on these topics: indicators of childhood sexual abuse, treatment issues such as shame and fears about sexuality, the impact of childhood abuse on adult relationships, what is involved in counselling and support groups, and options for dealing with the abuser. Victim Characteristics And Attributions Of Blame In Male Rape by Timothy K. Daugherty and Jody A. Esper Abstract Examined factors that may influence attributions of blame for male victims of rape. Whatley and Riggio (1993) found that victim arrest record and perceiver's belief in a just world influenced attributions of blame. The current study sought to replicate and extend these findings. Sexual orientation of the victim was manipulated along with arrest record, resulting in a 2 X 2 ANOVA. As expected, belief in a just world predicted greater victim blame and homosexual victims were accorded more blame than heterosexual victims. The finding related to arrest record, however, was not replicated. Husband Abuse : An Overview of Research and Perspective Leslie Tutty Abstract This discussion paper raises questions about the complex and controversial issue of men who are abused by their intimate partners. The paper is based on three sources: research on husband abuse and gaps in our knowledge about this issue; summary of the few studies in which abused men describe their experiences; and interviews with representatives from treatment programs and men's issues groups. The overview concludes with suggestions for victims and some of the policy implications related to this issue. Given the controversy surrounding the topic of husband abuse, this discussion paper will be of interest to many front-line service providers, policymakers and researchers. 1998, 24 p. Adult Male Survivors of Incest by Susan L. Ray R.N., M.Sc.N. C.N.S. Abstract The purposes of this exploratory study were to examine the severity of the immediate, long-term, and overall effects of child and adolescent incest. In addition, This study was designed to determine whether a relationship existed between the severity of the long-term effects, the overall effect, and various demographic variables. The Incest Questionnaire was utilized to elicit information from 25 adult male incest survivors. Significant aftereffects were found in various spheres of the survivors' lives. Significant correlations were found between the long-term effects, the overall effect, and various demographic variables. |
