Introduction -
This booklet is written for parents who want to understand, prevent, or stop sibling
sexual abuse in their family. It explains sibling sexual abuse and some of the
contributing factors, relates the problem to other forms of abuse, and describes
the effects on victims. To differentiate between abuse and normal sexual curiosity
between siblings, the authors describe normal childhood behaviour and suggest how parents
can identify sexual aggression and prevent abuse from happening.

Adult Male Survivors of Incest by Susan L. Ray R.N., M.Sc.N. C.N.S.

Abstract

The purposes of this exploratory study were to examine the severity of the immediate,
long-term, and overall effects of child and adolescent incest. In addition, This study was
designed to determine whether a relationship existed between the severity of the long-term
effects, the overall effect, and various demographic variables. The Incest Questionnaire was
utilized to elicit information from 25 adult male incest survivors. Significant aftereffects
were found in various spheres of the survivors' lives. Significant correlations were found
between the long-term effects, the overall effect, and various demographic variables.

Abstract

In recent years, the psychiatric, nursing, and legalcommunities have given increasing
attention to the identificationand treatment of adults who were sexually abused as children
oradolescents. The extensive research commissioned by the BadgleyCommittee (1984) reported
that all children in Canada are atrisk. Badgley (1984) found that about one third of the
males andjust over one half of the females surveyed, reported that theyhad been the victims
of at least one unwanted sexual act.
